NO FLIP TURNS is a documentary I made for my Masters Thesis at University of Denver. I was fortunate enough to find Karen Burton, who at the time was at the top of her field as a long distance swimmer, and Terry Laughlin, long distance swimmer and renown swimming instructor, to provide their expertise on the sport. Along with Karen and Terry, local open water swimmers are interviewed intercut with my attempt to swim approximately 12 miles from marina to marina in the Blue Mesa Reservoir near Gunnison, Colorado.

The Blue Mesa is the largest body of water in Colorado. When I attempted the swim in 1995, I had to get special permission from the Curecanti National Forest. No one to their knowledge had ever attempted to swim in the Blue Mesa at that time. Since then, Sarah Thomas (see Ice Mile swim) has completed the approximate 22-mile length of it.

Approximately 39 minutes in length, the film attempts to provide educational information to the open water novice and offer some tips to others who enjoy swimming in open water or the pool. If you would like to purchase the DVD it comes with outtakes and is only $10.00, which basically covers the time involved and the expense of DVD, packaging and domestic shipping. (Extra shipping charges for international orders). If you are interested please go to the Contact page on this s2c Website, fill out the info and I will email you with more information.
