TIFF 2018

As the festival progressed to the last day on Labor Day, I was a little disappointed that no film "blew me away" this year. Luckily there was one day left. Meeting Gorbachev by Werner Herzog at the "Zog" on Labor Day was an event to be remembered. Just Gorbachev's presence in the film was enough for me. Was I blown away? I think the Q&A helped. I don't ever remember a Q&A so well attended. Usually members in the audience are walking out during the program, but this year it seemed as though everyone was riveted to each question. This event made the festival for me.
I also enjoyed Dogman on Sunday morning at the Sheridan Opera House with the actor, Marcello Fonte, pictured above, on hand for a Q&A. He won the Best Actor award at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. I can see why.

I think Border was the most talked about film when standing in line. It really stretches the imagination far out of the margins of mainstream film. It raised a lot of unanswered questions.

I also enjoyed Birds of Passage, and Trial by Fire. Trial by Fire was followed by an interesting Q&A featuring Laura Dern and the real-life character on which it is based, Elizabeth Gilbert
